We travelled to Real 60 this week and expected a tough game especially as we got a 1-1 draw with them earlier this season. We turned up at King Georges Field and to what looked like a decent pitch until we walked on it and it turned out to be a bog in disguise, it would be very hard going for both teams. When we started 60 were coming down the slope and it wasn’t long when we realised this was going to be a hard battle due to all the boys carrying an extra 10lbs on each boot tanks to the boggy pitch, 60 had the best of the opening play about 10 minutes in they moved the ball down there left beat the defender (far to easily) a smart pass into the area and was well put away by the forward 1-0. We picked ourselves up and continued the battle creating a couple of half chances, one of which was the hard working Ti who never gives up, he collected the ball in the centre of the bog and went on a mazy run beating player after player in midfield then got through the 60 defence only to be greeted by the brave on coming keeper who saved well at Ti’s feet. Half hour in and 60 were pushing us back they put a hopeful ball into the area which again should have been cleared but some how ended at the feet of a forward who did well to bang home 2-0.
Second half was much the same as both teams slogged it out, i don’t think there was a player on the pitch that could kick the ball much more than 30/35 yards due to the conditions so playing football was not an option. We did create a couple of chances but our shooting was poor today, we ether missed the target or hit it at the 60 keeper. Defensively we tightened up second half and reduced 60 to very few chances. With only a few minutes left on the clock a 60 forward tried fighting his way through the centre of our defence and ended up falling over and getting a penalty which then was missed.
Final score was 2-0 but when you look at last seasons 4-0 & 7-3 defeats to 60 compared to this seasons 1-1 draw and 2-0 defeat we have come along leaps and bounds and with the immanent arrival of more new players in the next few weeks the progression will continue and competition for starting positions will become harder. We visit Chatham Town next week in another derby game. Chats found there feet this week in the kent League with a creditable win at Dover, Hern Bay got a good win at Ebbsfleet, so the middle of the table is looking tight, should make it a very interesting second half of the season. |
