Match Report

With 3rd hosting 2nd this was surely the game of the day. Sutton coming into the game with the least goals conceded with Blair looking to maintain there unbeaten start to the season.

Formation changes, Crusty came in at centre half, hetters went right back, trio in the middle was chappers, brookes and blackburn, martin and cliff on either flank and preston as the lone striker. Deangate, Bill and Tubes maintaining there positions. Unfortunately for Freeman, Backshall and Gutteridge it was a bench job this week. However you don't win leagues with a bare 11.

Unlike past weeks, Blair started strongly and took the game to Sutton with the wide men Martin and Cliff both getting lots of ball. Although lots of possession was maintained clear cut chances only started coming in the 20th minute with Martin May crossing to Lee Preston who managed to nick the ball of the keeper at the near post and cliff sweeped the ball into the back of the net only for the referee to give a foul on the keeper in which all 22 players including the keeper and additional spectators were amazed at the decision.

However this set back did not last long when 5 minutes later May went round the keeper squared to Preston to slam the ball into the roof of the net and yes I say GIVE BLAIR THE LEAD.

While at the other end, Tubes was counting the daisy's and occassionaly coming out 35 yards to clear his lines. But the back four managed to keep the home team quite.

Brookes Chappers and Blackburn linked up exceptionally well and looked like they had played together all season.

Before the half was out we managed to create several clear cut chances with Preston going one on one, Cliff having a shot, Darren having a shot and Martin May having a shot, as well as Bill with a couple of headers.

However no addition to the scoreline and still no saves for Tubes.

Second half continued with blair making in roads into the sutton defence and after 15 mins it was 2-0 when Martin 'Maradona' May jinked through the sutton defence only to get clipped on the 5th attempt and the ref had no choice but to blow for the pen. Darren stepping up and providing the goods by sending the keeper the wrong way.

Once the second goal went in Blair seemed to take there foot of the gas and allowed Sutton to have time and space on the ball which eventually pushed us further back and Tubes was called into action.

Piggy then called in the changes with Backshall replacing Crusty, Freeman replacing Blackburn. In the next 10 mins Blair were trying to weather the storm and catch Sutton on the break as they pushed men forward, but it was to Suttons hard determination which lead to their goal with a deep free kick into the box allowing their centre forward to have a free header from six yards out and he made no mistake.

At this moment in the game weaker teams may have folded but Blair pushed on with lots of pace going forward with Freeman, Cliff and May (sorry Preston I said pace not height) and this was creating holes in suttons defence which was eventually opened by Cliff with a stunning rightfooted drive after he had cut in from the left and nestled the ball in the bottom left hand cornor.

3 points were all wrapped up as Blair closed out the final 10 minutes and reclaimed there spot at the top of the league.

An all round solid team performance and good display of football.

One note I must add, is that my babies dummy got nicked on Saturday. Now I had Brookes, Chappers, Cormack and FREEMAN in my car, I will let you guess who may have took it and indeed spat it out.

Keep up the good work lads and onto next week
