Hollands and Blair 5 vs Lordswood Reserves 3
Following the performance by Hollands and Blair against Lordswood 1st on Tuesday and the 1-0 victory everyone expected a win at the new fortress and home of football being the Rochester Gas.
The game started brightly with H&B taking it to Lordswood especially with the pace of Alex Flisher down the left flank.
Within 5 mins H&B were one up with Flisher getting to the bye line cutting it back for Carl Preston who’s shot was parried by the keeper and Hetterley pounced with a header against the cross bar and OVER THE LINE.
The second followed minutes later with Alex once again getting to bye line and cutting back for Preston who made no mistake this time side footing into bottom corner from 6 yards.
H&B continued to create attacks throughout the opening quarter of an hour without much reply and a deep cross from Flisher hit Carl’s shoulder and feel to Freeman who ghosted in at the back stick and finished comfortably.
Lordswood then had a couple of attacks and gained a goal through H&B doing. Brookes mis placed pass for once caught Chapman and Hetterley out of position, the left back managed to scamper forward and cross for the forward to head home from 8 yards.
Tubes did manage to get his hand to it but his main sponsor this year “Nivea” would have been proud as his soft hands didn’t keep it out.
Blair responded once again to this with a number of attacks from both Flisher and Hetterley, with good midfield passing from Tydeman and Brookes.
Fourth goal for Blair came with 5 mins of half left the two centre half’s combining well following a corner with Cormack cutting the ball back for Johnson to tuck home.
There was still enough time for Lordswood to nick another before the half ended with Cormack giving away a penalty. Once again Tube guessed the right way but his “Nivea hands” didn’t seem to stop the ball from crossing the line.
The second half started a little lacklustre and Lordswood sniffed a chance coming back to 4-3 , a free shot from 30 yards saw the midfielder curl the ball into Tubes top corner which was probably the best goal of the game, although no closing down from any Blair player should be questioned.
Piggy then rang the changes to give people some minutes and freshen things up, which also saw a welcome return for Lee Preston who has been away on holiday.
The big man once again did not disappoint with a nice tidy header into the bottom corner from an Overton cross.
Blair finished the game with a number of runs and chances but no more goals
Final score 5-3 and Blair remain undefeated at the fortress from pre-season which is welcomed following some of last year’s results.
The team soon scampered of the pitch following fulltime, don’t think they really wanted to do any more doggies.
All the best for the season gents. Let’s go one better.
